Aaron Carter Tested Positive for a Potentially Lethal Combination of Drugs—Including Opiates
September 16, 2017 - Finding Carter
Over a past few months, rumors about Aaron Carter and his new weight loss have been swirling—especially after his detain in July. Some have even hidden that he has HIV or that he’s been holding dangerous drugs. Now, in a new shave from an arriving partial of The Doctors, it’s suggested that Carter had been holding a potentially-deadly multiple of drugs—but not a ones we competence have thought.
“Aaron really plainly submitted to a drug exam since he wanted to set a record straight,” horde Travis Stork, M.D., an puncture medicine physician, says in a clip. The exam formula came behind disastrous for heroin and methamphetamine, though were certain for marijuana, benzodiazepines (anti-anxiety medications), and opiates (specifically, hydrocodone).
Dr. Stork says that what “scares” him about these formula is that Carter’s sister Leslie upheld divided of an overdose in 2012 after a prolonged conflict with opioid addiction, “and you’ve got a reduction of benzodiazepines with opiates, that is how many people incidentally can die,” he says. “These drugs can be very, really scary.”
Most opiate-related drug overdoses engage some-more than one drug.
Indeed, it’s essential to remember that over 70 percent of opioid overdoses indeed engage a multiple drugs that act on a same systems within your body—not only opioids. And it’s estimated that over 30 percent of opioid-related overdoses also engage benzodiazepines.
“It’s partial of a remedy drug epidemic, though it’s most reduction famous and reported,” Joshua D. Lee, M.D, associate highbrow in a dialect of race health during NYU Langone Health, tells SELF. “The dual drugs come together in their intensity to composed and means respiratory depression,” Dr. Lee explains. “[Patients] tumble asleep, stop breathing, and that’s an overdose.”
Benzodiazepines are quite concerning because, like opiates, they can turn habit-forming and even lead to earthy dependence. But both forms of drugs are ordinarily prescribed (especially among patients traffic with identical issues), so it’s not odd for someone traffic with soporific coherence to also be traffic with a benzodiazepine emanate as well. “People that are concerned and in pain and wish to feel during palliate mostly find that possibly opiates or benzodiazepines or a dual together is a ideal cocktail,” Dr. Lee says.
Treating both forms of coherence during once can be challenging.
Unlike with soporific addiction, we don’t have drugs that assistance patients finish off benzodiazepines, he continues. Both buprenorphine and methadone might be used as partial of soporific obsession diagnosis since they are identical adequate to opioids to palliate withdrawal symptoms but providing such heated feelings of euphoria. However, zero like that exists for benzodiazepines.
Instead, Dr. Lee says that infrequently patients will be asked to switch from shorter-acting drugs (e.g. Xanax or Klonipin) to longer-acting ones (e.g. Valium). But, over that, a plan is to finish off and residence a underlying stress or nap emanate in another way. As one can imagine, Dr. Lee says treating both forms of coherence during a same time is a substantial challenge.
Luckily, Carter seems to be in good hands and already creation some progress. In a shave he says he’s already anticipating opposite ways to conduct his stress but so most medication, including going on pondering fishing trips by himself and going to a beach with his darling bulldog. But, he says, “it’s not going to be easy. we know it’s a tough road.”
