Kings’ miss of scoring is a zero-sum game, again, in 3-0 detriment to Rangers

April 2, 2017 - Finding Carter

Credit goes to core Jeff Carter for anticipating a many critical and permanent law that emerged from a Kings’ 3-0 detriment to a New York Rangers on Saturday, a better that left them 9 points out of a second Western Conference wild-card playoff mark with 8 games left.

“If we don’t score,” Carter said, “you don’t win too many games, no matter how good your goalie is.”

And there we have it.

The Kings were close out for a 10th time this deteriorate — and second in 3 games — notwithstanding being credited with 30 shots during Rangers goaltender Antti Raanta, whose teammates blocked 18 other shot attempts by a Kings. In many ways, a Rangers’ opening in fluctuating their NHL-best highway record to 27-9-1 was suggestive of a Kings’ character when they were means to strike a winning change between parsimonious invulnerability and opportunistic, timely scoring.

Jonathan Quick, who faced 19 shots. “I suspicion we played a good game. We didn’t win, we know? That seems to be function a small some-more mostly than we would like.”

It has happened a lot some-more mostly than is good for their playoff prospects. They did get a good possibility in a second period, when rookie Jonny Brodzinski went in on a breakaway in his NHL debut, though he couldn’t gain on it. “I wish we would have got a win,” pronounced Brodzinski, who played alongside Andy Andreoff and Nic Dowd and took 3 shots in 11 mins and 7 seconds of ice time. “If we measure on that breakaway we had, it’s a totally opposite game.”

Coach Darryl Sutter agreed. “I’d have favourite to have seen him measure on a breakaway, so did he,” Sutter said. “Would have done it 1-0. That would have been a large moment.”

But blank that breakaway wasn’t a usually reason they lost. The Kings had few second-chance shots and combined few scoring opportunities by winning house battles. The line of Tanner Pearson (four shots), Carter (four shots) and Tyler Toffoli (five shots) was by distant their best, though Carter has now left 7 games but a goal, Toffoli is scoreless in 5 games, and Pearson has one idea in his final 10 games.
